End of Year Reflection
As I sit in a space of reflection, thinking about this school year, I am in awe of the incredible resilience, perseverance, and tenacity that so many educators brought to their work each and every day. Despite the challenges, they continued to pour hope and belief into young people, creating profound relationships that could change lives.
Theodore Roosevelt once said, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” Throughout this year, educators exemplified this sentiment, creating opportunities and experiences that shaped the lives of our young people and staff alike. They fostered spaces full of empowerment and autonomy, yielding innovative projects and ideas that profoundly impacted school communities.
Community members and organizations played a pivotal role in supporting our schools and students, demonstrating the power of collaboration and solidarity. As John Dewey once said, "Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself." Schools were not merely institutions for learning, but vital centers that enriched and sustained the fabric of our society. The support and engagement of our stakeholders and community members illustrated that our collective efforts were essential in fostering a nurturing environment where every student could thrive. That should make us all so proud!
This school year may not have looked how we envisioned, and it may not have been perfect, but it provided moments where lives were changed, hope was given, and synergy was created around ideas. It fostered spaces of belonging and belief, helping people to trust in themselves and their potential. Today, more than ever, our young people need these skills and characteristics as it allows them to foster empathy and understanding of others – critical to creating a safe space of belonging.
I recognize the incredible challenges that educators face within the field each and every day. We continue to answer the call because we believe in the power of education to transform lives and communities. Each day, educators inspire and empower, making a difference in the lives of their students and the future of our society. That is what has happened this year. In various ways, in various communities, and in various classrooms, we have inspired and made the world a better place for all. Thank you; I appreciate you.
As I look back on this school year, I celebrate the dedication and impact of educators everywhere. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your unwavering commitment and for making a difference every single day.
Now, pour into yourself, as you rest and recharge. You’re a game changer and we need you to keep changing lives in August. Thank you for answering the call to serve. Have a great summer, educators!
Keep shining, friends!
